About Katayoun
Katayoun is an instructor and performer of Middle Eastern Dance in Northern Virginia. She has consistently taught weekly classes to students of all ages and backgrounds since 1999, beginning in Northwest Florida. The hard and some times controversial lessons learned in that first year of teaching, along with her background as an educator the classroom, led her to create a dance format and curriculum for teaching Oriental dance.
In 2009 she founded Mosaique LLC and began teaching and performing full time. Her current students include kids and adults of all ages, abilities and backgrounds, beginners to professional-levels.
With her extensive teaching experience and training in a variety of Middle Eastern and belly dance dance styles, she aims to bring out the best in her students while taking into consideration their individual performance goals.
As a mentor, her mission is to help instructors take the complexity out of teaching and put creativity in. She knows first-hand the demands of teaching, as well as the needs and interests of students at various points in their dance journey. She aims to help dancers become confident, dynamic and ever-evolving instructors, and have fun, while advancing their students’ progress.
Through her training seminars and books, she hopes to promote teaching standards and breadth of knowledge within the Middle Eastern Dance community.
