License to Use Our Products
Last Updated: 11/18/2022
Now that I am retired, my goal is to make sure that all the resources I created will stay available for future generations of dancers. That’s why I’ve made the entire Belly Dance Geek® catalog available with “pay what you want” pricing.
Don’t Steal It!
My work is still protected by copyright, so please don’t duplicate our products (in whole or in part) to give to other people. They can get their own copy for as little as $1 in the Belly Dance Geek® store.
Even a $1 purchase helps keep these resources available by contributing to hosting costs and protecting my trademark.
But DO Share It!
That said, I would love to have teachers, bloggers and other creators keep my work alive by sharing it with friends, students, and the dance community.
So I’m granting permission to use any product of mine that you have legally purchased, as well as any of my free resources such as articles and podcasts, under the following limited circumstances.
Terms & Scenarios
Please note: These terms are subject to change at any time, so please check back here before each use.
Sharing Ideas & Single Exercises
You are always welcome to share ideas or single exercises that you learned from my work, as long as:
- You credit me as the creator: Nadira Jamal, Belly Dance Geek®.
- You cite the product or resource by name. Including a link is always appreciated, but not required.
- You express the content in your own words, rather than copying and pasting or otherwise reproducing my content.
I prefer that you also add your own thoughts, opinions, or interpretation, but this isn’t required.
For example: If you enjoyed Personal Style Snafus, you are welcome to make a YouTube video about the “shoulds vs. values” segment of that program, and what you learned about your own dance values.
But if you wanted to share that entire section of the worksheet or audio, you would need to ask for my permission.
(Short quotes are generally allowed under Fair Use.)
Limited Classroom Use
Teachers are welcome to use my materials, curricula, and exercises in their in-person or online classes, as long as:
- They are being used in your regular, ongoing or session-based class offerings (not workshops or special events).
- My content takes up no more than 50% of class time within a class session or 8-week period (whichever is longer).
- You credit me as the creator: Nadira Jamal, Belly Dance Geek®.
- You give your students a direct link to each resource you use, such as the product page or podcast episode URL.
- You do not duplicate materials from my paid products for your students to use outside of class.
(You are very welcome to use these during class time, but if you want your students to use them outside of class, or have their own copies to keep, they will need to download them from the Belly Dance Geek® store.)
For example: You could use the Improvisation Toolkit Vol. 1 (in whole or in part) to teach an improvisation unit in your intermediate class. You could play the video in class, assign it as homework, and/or lead your students through the exercises.
If you were teaching a 10-week session, you could do a dedicated Improv Toolkit unit of 5 weeks or less, or you could do a weekly segment, taking up no more than half of each class (ex: 45 out of 90-minutes).
But if you wanted to devote more than 50% of your class time to my material, you would need to ask for my permission.
Other Uses: Workshops, Events, Products, etc.
If you would like to use my in any situation not covered above, such as workshops, special events, or in your own instructional videos or products, you would need to ask for my permission.
For example: If you are teaching a public workshop on finger cymbals and want to include more than one exercise from my Lace course, you would need to ask for my permission.
But using a single exercise in your workshop would be fine! (See “Sharing Single Ideas & Exercises” above.)
But Feel Free to Ask!
I’m happy to consider requests to use my work beyond these circumstances, so don’t be shy!
Just send me the details of what you’d like to use, and how and where you would be using it at nadira@nadirajamal.com.
(Note: If you’re using content from Awesome Audio, please contact Heather at bellybyheather@hotmail.com, since she created that program.)
Happy dancing!
– Nadira
